Autoimmune
Autoimmune diseases are conditions that arise when the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues. The immune system is responsible for protecting the body from infection and disease, and it normally does this by identifying and destroying foreign cells and organisms. In people with autoimmune diseases, the immune system mistakes the body’s own cells for foreign cells and begins to attack them. This can lead to a variety of symptoms, depending on which tissues are being attacked.
