Thyroid

The thyroid gland is a small, butterfly-shaped organ located in the lower front of the neck. It produces thyroid hormones, which help regulate many body processes, including heart rate, energy use, and weight. The thyroid gland is also responsible for producing calcitonin, which helps control levels of calcium and phosphorus in the blood.
